Dolls Magazine - Bilingual Beauties
Ciao and bonjour are just two ways you might hear a Language Little greet you. These dolls are small in stature, but big on learning. As computers continue to turn our world into a global community, it is becoming increasingly necessary to speak more than one language. Language Littles can help children learn French, Italian, Chinese, or Spanish. By making education fun, these pint-size professors introduce foreign languages at a young age.
"We are very excited about the July launch; in fact there has been so much interest in our product line that we have had to increase our initial product," says Geri Grobman, president of Language Littles. These soft-bodied 16-inch dolls are being well received by specialty, educational and toy stores alike. "They are cute, cuddly and smart," says Grobman. Each doll has a lot to say, and they say it in more than one language. Jolie speaks French and English; Lizzie speaks Spanish and English; Sophie speaks Italian and English; and Ling speaks Chinese and English.
These bilingual cuties are definitely unique. Each comes with a special translation booklet and a secret password that opens up a special page on the company's Web site. "There are no other dolls on the market quite like these," confirms Grobman. And Language Littles make great classroom companions, spouting international phrases for students to repeat. "Counting, greeting, listing colors and hobbies are some of the ways kids will be introduced to a new language," explains Grobman.
"It's important for children to learn as much as they can about the world around them. Children today are getting a head start by learning two, three, or even four languages," she says. "Introducing other languages opens the world to children, teaching them about different cultures and ideas."
Each Language Little sports a different outfit and comes with her own fun accessories. For instance, Sophie, the athletic type, is dressed in a soccer jersey and holds a soft soccer ball under one arm, while Lizzie, the animal lover, is hiding her dog, Cocoa in her pink shoulder bag.
